If you own a Nexus 6 device and wants to root Nexus 6 running Android 5.0 Lollipop, then there is an easy way to do that. Famous developer Chainfire has released CF-Auto-Root script with which you can easily accomplish your task.
*Keep in mind that this rooting method will unlock your Nexus 6’s bootloader if it’s not already unlocked. You won’t be able to claim warranty on this device anymore, also you will lose your data so make sure you backup your device data before you root Nexus 6 device.
- Download CF-Auto-Root zip file for the Nexus 6.
- Back up your device.
- A USB cable is required to connect your Nexus 6 device with PC or Mac.
1: Download CF-Auto-Root zip file and extract its contents to your desktop or some other easy accessible folder.
2: Turn off Nexus 6 device; boot it into bootloader mode, by holding down the ‘Volume Down’ button and ‘Power button’.
3: Take your fingers off of the keys once you see the “Restart bootloader” message on the phone and tap on the Restart bootloader in order to enter bootloader mode.
4: In this step you need to plug in your Nexus 6 device to your PC or Mac with USB Cable. Now you need to run the automated script.
Run the “root-windows.bat” file.
This is different from how you do it in Windows machines, Open Terminal > Go to the location of the extracted contents using Terminal > enter the following command on your Mac and Linux computers:
You will see a message to unlock the bootloader if its locked so hit the Enter / Return key even if the bootloader is unlocked. Script will start running and you will also see a message displayed on Nexus 6 that the device is being rooted. Rooting will take few minutes and it will restart your Nexus 6 automatically.
To check if your Nexus 6 has been rooted successfully, check your app drawer where you will see an app named SuperSU.
