Install Android Lollipop 5

Installing Android Lollipop 5.0 on your PC can you help you test Applications, and the latest new features in Android’s new release. Download links and steps to install Android are all available in this article.

1: Search for Android SDK on Google.com, or go to this link directly: http://developer.android.com/sdk

2: Click Download Eclipse ADT with the Android SDK for windows, accept terms and conditions, select from 32bit / 64bit and click download.

3: Now download and install Java, usually it should be on your computer but we need the latest. Go to http://java.com and download the latest from there and install it. Java also installs Ask toolbar if you don’t need that make sure you read during the setup and uncheck when it asks to install Ask toolbar.

4: Now it’s time to extract the files you downloaded from Android SDK site, you can extract it in the same folder where you downloaded the file. Open the folder after the extraction is complete and open SDK Manager Application.

5: In this step you need to check mark few packages to install (if not checked already):

  • Under Tools: Android SKD Tools, Android SDK Platform-tools.
  • Under Android 5.0: Samples for SDK API L Preview
  • Check on Extras: This will give you all Extra features.

Click install Packages.

6: Next step you will accept licenses, click Android SDK license from left and click accept license, click Android SDK preview license and accept license, click Intel Extra license and accept license, download will start from there. It will show done loading packages in status bar once the packages are installed. (Some option might not be there when you install it)

Step 6 will take more than 30 mins to complete, can be less depends on your internet connection.

7: Now click Manage AVDs, click create, type AVD name: Android Lollipop, for device select: Nexus 5 (4.95”, 1080 x 1920: xxhdpi), Target: Android 5.0 L Preview, CPU: Intel Atom (x86), Skin: No Skin, RAM: 768, Internal Storage: 2048, under emulation option: check on Use Host GPU, click OK.

8: Select your AVD and hit start to launch your virtual Android Device.

On this step you might encounter an error message, see below:

emulator: ERROR: x86 emulation currently requires hardware acceleration!
Please ensure Intel HAXM is properly installed and usable.
CPU acceleration status: HAX kernel module is not installed!
