Canon PowerShot G16 Review: Compact Camera with DSLR-like controls


Canon’s G series digital cameras are famous for their built and the huge fan following. The new Canon Powershot G16 is the shooter which actually is pretty much similar to its predecessor Canon G15, but G16 is much more than it and holds the latest advancements beneath.

Canon PowerShot G16 is a Compact Camera featuring specs like 12.1MP 1/1.7″ BSI CMOS sensor, ISO 80 – 12800, 1920 x 1080 at 30fps, 3-inch, 921k-dot fix LCD screen, 5x optical zoom, Wi-Fi capability as well as a new DIGIC VI processor. G-16 is a heavy camera weighing 12.5 ounces with 4.2″x 3.0″x1.58″ measurements but nonetheless it can easily be carried in a jacket or small purse.

The design and build of G16 is not very different from other G series cameras. It does seem bulky but is pretty much solid and actually seems best for the professionals. G16 has a fast f/1.8 aperture and you will surely not be disappointed from the image quality even at full zoom. The dials and buttons are perfectly placed according to the need of the photographers and its pretty much easy to use and even if you are not an expert the selection of menus and shooting modes can easily be selected. It also has a dedicated button at the back so you can easily adjust light sensitivity according to your subject and need.

G16 holds the latest Digic 6 processor so speed will be no issue as it can easily take 2.2 frames per second in continuous shooting mode, and up to 60 fps when shooting 1920 x 1080 video which is pretty impressive. Moreover it also has Wi-Fi connectivity so you can easily share your beautiful and magnificent photos on the go. 

If you are looking for DSLR-like feature set and great-looking picture quality with rock solid body then PowerShot G16 can be the good option.
